When you drive through an electronic toll lane in any of the Texas toll facility without a valid toll tag it is counted as missed toll or toll violation. In such an event, the vehicle owner is served an invoice with details of the missed toll and instructions to pay it along with a fine (in some cases) by the concerned tolling authority. Thus the process of missed toll notification and payment depends upon the Texas tolling agency whose toll you missed paying.

If you have missed toll payment on any of the Texas toll facilities, we suggest you wait for the authorities to mail you the bill and instructions to pay it. Alternatively, if you have a toll tag account, you can log into your account, look at all the due tolls and pay toll online.

Missed toll for NTTA toll points

If you did not have a TollTag (or other valid transponders) when you travelled The North Texas Tollway Authority's (NTTA)[1] toll facilities, you would have to pay tolls by ZipCash[2].

What is ZipCash

ZipCash is a video toll payment system under NTTA. When a motorist without a valid toll tag drives through tolling points, high-speed cameras take digital images of the license plate, and the tolls are billed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

It offers a pay-by-mail option at higher rates for customers who do not have a TollTag. Although TollTag customers receive the lowest toll rates on NTTA roads; ZipCash customers pay at least 50 percent more than TollTag users. ZipCash customers (toll violators) receive bills monthly as part of the new Simplified Billing structure.

How to pay ZipCash invoice

You can pay ZipCash invoice in following ways:

  • Online at ZipCash Customer Service Center Portal[3]
  • By Mail
  • Over the phone at 972-818-NTTA (6882) or 817-731-NTTA (6882) by following automated instruction
  • In person with the NTTA Customer Service Center [4]

Missed toll for TxDOT toll points

If you cross a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)[5] without a valid toll tag, they will send you an invoice called Pay By Mail statement.

What is Pay By Mail

Pay By Mail is a video toll payment method just like ZipCash. It is TxDOT's missed toll collection system that works across all of its tolling facilities. Violators should receive a bill within three weeks of using a TxDOT-owned toll road.

The Pay By Mail bill will include a $1.15 statement fee, and your tolls will be charged at the higher toll rates.

How to pay Pay-By-Mail invoice

You can do it online by going to Pay A Bill website[6] and log in with your account number or license plate number. You can also make a payment through our automated phone service by calling at 1-888-468-9824.

Please note that if you fail to clear a Pay By Mail bill on time, a $4.00 late fee will be applied to your account and appear on your next month’s bill.

Missed toll on HCTRA toll points

While driving through any of the toll facility under the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA)[7] if you are found to miss a toll, you will recieve a missed toll invoice. It may include additional fees and penalties and even issuance of a traffic citation.

You can also check your outstanding violation invoices [8] online. Toll violators may pay a toll that has not yet been invoiced through the Missed a Toll process[9].
