How to pay missed toll in North Carolina

Travelers who do not have/use NC Quick Pass[1] pre-paid transponder while passing through NC tolls are charged for tolls by “Bill by Mail program”. It is an alternative payment option where travelers receive an invoice mailed to the address to which the vehicle is registered. Here is more information on Bill by Mail[2]. You can also choose to sign up for the Bill by Email program to receive your NC toll invoices by email, instead of through the U.S. Postal Service. Here is all the information on how to sign-up for email invoice, how to find invoice, how to pay and opt-out of the program: Bill by Email[3]. But if you were driving a rental car, you would not be able to pay the tolls directly to North Carolina Turnpike Authority. The invoices for missed tolls for rental cars are sent to the rental car company. Therefore, depending on rental car agencie’s policies, you might have to pay toll charges to your rental company. Please note that, as per NC Quick Pass website, If the bill is not paid within 30 days from the date of the bill, the vehicle’s registered owner could incur fees, civil penalties, DMV registration holds and/or be turned over to a collection agency. Therefore, please plan to pay your bills on time. If you have further questions. please reach out to NC Quick Pass customer service center at 877-7MY-PASS (877-769-7277). If you wish to see toll costs at each toll plaza on the route that you traveled, we suggest you using TollGuru Trip Calculator. You can also download our free app from Google play store or the App Store. Both, our website calculator and apps, are totally free for all vehicles types.
