Do I Need FASTag for Karnataka? 2026 Update
Yes, in practice. A valid FASTag is now needed on National Highway toll plazas in Karnataka: cash payments were discontinued from April 10, 2026, and vehicles without a valid FASTag can pay by UPI at 1.25 times the applicable toll. Concession roads such as NICE Road and the Electronics City Flyover set their own fares, but FASTag is the fastest way to pay on all of them.
Key Reality: NICE Road is a concession road operated under a 2000 agreement between NICE Limited and the Government of Karnataka, so its fares are revised separately from NHAI plazas. The last revision took effect on July 1, 2025 and added Rs 3-5 for cars and two-wheelers and Rs 10-25 for buses. Cars pay Rs 150 one-way on the Karnataka section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway under the tariff effective July 22, 2026.
2026 Update: The 71 km Karnataka section of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway has been tolled since September 4, 2025. NHAI revised toll rates at most Karnataka plazas by 3-5% from April 1, 2026, and the FASTag Annual Pass now costs Rs 3,075.

How to Pay Karnataka Tolls
You can use the following toll payment methods to pay tolls in Karnataka:
1. FASTag Electronic System:
- Works on all NHAI toll plazas statewide
- Required on National Highways: cash is no longer accepted, and UPI payment costs 1.25 times the toll
- Accepted on NICE Road and other concession roads at operator-notified rates
- Annual FASTag Pass (Rs 3,075 for 200 trips or one year) is valid at designated NHAI plazas only, not on state or concession roads such as NICE Road
- Monthly pass of Rs 4,955 for 50 trips on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway (cars and light vehicles)
