George Washington Bridge (aka GWB) is a toll bridge in New York. At 1,451 m long - once the longest bridge in the world - it connects the New York City borough of Manhattan with the New Jersey borough of Fort Lee spanning over the Hudson River.
The tolls for GWB are among the most expensive of US toll facilities. Its toll price depends on vehicle type, travel time and payment methods - E-ZPass NY, E-Pass NJ or cash, and is collected by the Port Authority of NY and NJ[1].
Use the GWB Toll Calculator to calculate tolls for your trip across the George Washington Bridge and other toll facilities of New York.
How much is the George Washington Bridge toll in 2021
The George Washington Bridge toll price depends on vehicle type, travel time and payment methods - E-ZPass NY, E-Pass NJ or cash.
The cash toll for a car to cross the George Washington Bridge is $16. However, when paid with a valid tag transponder- E-ZPass NY or E-Pass NJ - the GWB toll for cars is $11.75 - $13.75 respectively for off-peak and peak hours. With the same toll tags, the 5-axle truck toll on GWB ranges from $90 - $95.
Vehicle type | Toll Tag Rate (off-peak hours) | Toll Tag Rate (peak hours) | Cash Rate |
---|---|---|---|
Car, SUV, Pickup truck | $11.75 | $13.75 | $16 |
Carpool | $11.75 | $13.75 | $16 |
2-axle Truck | $36 | $38 | $44 |
5-axle Truck | $90 | $95 | $110 |
2-axle Bus | $14.5 | $17 | $27 |
Peak hours are weekdays 6 AM – 10 AM and 4 PM – 10 PM.
Overnight hours are weekdays 10 PM – 6 AM and Sunday 11 PM – 6 AM.
Is the George Washington Bridge toll cashless
For the double-decked George Washington Bridge, the toll collection on the lower level is completely cashless. For the upper-level tolls can still be paid in cash. However, the Port Authority of NY and NJ is working on making the GWB an entirely cashless toll bridge[2].
You can calculate the George Washington Bridge tolls for all the vehicles traveling at any time using GWB Toll Calculator.
Which way do you pay on the GW Bridge
You do not have to pay for both ways on George Washington bridge. Only eastbound traffic has to pay tolls on the GW Bridge i.e. vehicles entering New York pay tolls but those entering New Jersey need not. In other words, the George Washington Bridge toll from NY to NJ is zero (toll free).
How much is George Washington Bridge toll by mail
For vehicles that use the tag transponder lane on the George Washington Bridge without a valid tag - insufficient balance, tag didn’t work etc. - they are charged a toll by mail. Their license plate is captured and a toll invoice is sent to the vehicle owner’s address.
Vehicle type | Toll by Mail |
---|---|
Car, SUV, Pickup truck | $16 |
Carpool | $16 |
2-axle Truck | $44 |
5-axle Truck | $110 |
2-axle Bus | $27 |
To know the toll by mail rate on George Washington Bridge for other vehicles, use GWB Toll Calculator.
